Individual Sessions: Functional Integration

Individual sessions–called Functional Integration–are designed to focus on your specific needs.   All FI sessions are 50 minutes and $110.

After your first session you can expect to feel relaxed with more ease in your joints. Sometimes people fall asleep. Optimal results are seen in three to six sessions.

Focus on Shoulder and Neck Tension

The crazy thing about the shoulder girdle is that there is no boney attachment to our ribs–or the rest of the skeleton. Our collarbones and shoulder blades just rest atop our ribcage.  So, as we pass the hours typing, mousing, driving and juggling the kids the muscles on top of our shoulders start to work overtime.  And when they do, there isn’t anything to hold them back down. Pretty soon the shoulders start rounding forward and we can’t turn our heads.

Relax, Unwind, Release

This session is designed to gently reduce your muscle tension and introduce you to the basic concepts of Functional Integration.  Your Feldenkrais teacher will chat with you about what you are feeling in your body and design a session that will best meet your needs.  Some people experience profound relief immediately, while others report simply a feeling of their joints moving more freely.

Releasing The Hips and Lower Back

Whoever thought that sitting could be so bad for you! Did you know that our daily life requires that we use our bodies for purposes for which they were never designed? The muscle groups of the lower body were designed to support and propel us through our environments, not keep us glued to a chair. Overuse of the hip flexors (the muscles that begin to grip as we sit) are related to a whole host of issues including a weak core, back pain and sciatica. This series of lessons focuses on releasing the hip flexors so that we can be upright once more.

Focus on The Jaw

Do you grind your teeth at night? Have you been diagnosed with TMJ? The jaw is an amazing and unique bone–it attaches to the skull at two sites–making it particularly vulnerable to misalignment. This series will reach you how to approach jaw discomfort indirectly. Through becoming aware of habitual tension in the shoulders, eyes and mouth you will find new avenues for relief.
